So, I'm sure we've all seen the sticker or shirt that says "Army Wife, Toughest Job in the Army". This is only my opinion, but I think that is one of the most stupid things I have ever read! The fact that women actually believe this makes it even worse!!
Now in no way am I saying that being an army wife/gf isn't hard, but come on people!! Oh, and when I say girlfriend, I mean the women who have been there for a significant amount of time. I'm not referring to the women who have been involved with an army man for a month or 2 before they deploy and I'm certainly not referring to "tag chasers".
Yes, it is hard on me raising the kids by myself....it hard on me during the holidays and it's hard on me when the kids are missing him, but it is far easier on me than him. I have the comforts of home in a familiar place. He has none of that. Every second he is there, he is at risk for being killed. Yes, I know I could get killed in an accident home, but the chances of that are slim. He constantly has a target on his back. At holidays, he sees his kids through a webcam, while I can hold and kiss them in person. He eats meals at the DFAC or out of the microwave, I eat home cooked meals. At night while I sleep soundly, he probably hears bombs and guns going off.
It really pisses me off when women say and think they have it harder than their husband who is serving in the army. They don't know hard until they have stepped foot on foreign land in a country where you're a target (unless she is a soldier herself or prior soldier).
Please take notice that I have never said "my soldier" or "their soldier". I always refer to them as "husband/s". My husband is just that, MY HUSBAND. The contract he signed with me was as husband and wife, not as soldier and wife.
I suppose this is the end of my little rant. LOL.
AMEN SISTA!!!
ReplyDeleteYou hit that one right on the head!! I have such an attitude about women who think they have it so rough!! Our men do what they do , we can sure handle the home front.. I will say its not easy.. But far from the TOUGHEST!! Finally someone with some sence!!
ReplyDeleteLOL. This saying kills me!!
ReplyDeleteYou should send this to my ex. She used to actually tell me that she had it just as tough, if not worse.....
ReplyDeletewow, she is was in denial...lol.. most wives/gf who i have seen with this mentality are the "poor pity me" attention seeking type...
ReplyDeletejamie...i am new to being an 'army girlfriend'...what the heck is a "tag chaser"?? i am, however, active-duty air force so i am familiar with some of the terms, just not this one. i have a feeling that going outside my *airman zone* that there's going to be a slew of new stuff, and not all of it good!!!
ReplyDeletelol, a "tag chaser" is someone who specifically goes after military men b/c of they want the benefits and stuff
ReplyDeletei agree and i like the term army wife strong , because that's one thong we have to do is stay strong because the last thing our husbands need to worry about is us while they are down range. with the term"my soldier" annoys me my husbands mother never paid much attention to him until he enlisted and barely calls him her son she refers to him as "my soldier" or "my american hero" when he has always been her son and should get acknowledge for that sometimes I think its just to get attention but who knows
ReplyDeleteI used to always tease my husband and tell him he has it better cause he doesn't have to cook and clean up after! He would agree, he'd say he just had to put his tray up and that he's soooo lucky! Or I would say I'd trade him places anyday if it meant he had to put up with our kids, he'd say I wish...oh the deployment days, how I do not miss em!
ReplyDeleteAmen, thank you, you rock, etc. I cannot believe some women think it is the toughest job in the military. That statement just makes no sense to me. I know for a fact I cannot not do what they do. They have it pretty rough, even if it's just a typical day of the week on post (most do, anyway.) We might have to be strong, which can be a challenge, but we don't have it that rough.
