Babies 2 Boys 2 Men - Growing Up Fast
My baby boys aren't babies anymore =( While I kinda miss the cuddling that comes with the younger age, I'm glad to see them grow older. They have their typical kid moments of not wanting to do their chores and being told to clean up their room, but other than that, my boys are wonderful!
DeeJay just turned 13 in July. A teenager... He is a little interested in girls, but not too much...yet. Girls think he is cute, but he pays them no mind really. Hopefully he holds off longer LOL DeeJay is my gamer child. He loves to play all the COD games and other shooting games as well. Or "murder/death/kill" as I like to call them. DeeJay has had a love of all things army related ever since my husbands first deployment back in 2003. DeeJay had just turned 4yrs old when Darrell deployed the first time. I told him and Richie that daddy had to go to Iraq and help fight the bad guys to keep the good people their safe. DeeJay instantly wanted the little army men with guns and would play with them for hours, pretending to take down the bad guys. When he started to draw, he was drawing soldiers killing the bad guys. He wanted to be like daddy.

Skype Helps Keep the Love Alive While They're Away (By: Allison Brooks - guest blogger)
Skype:
Bring you and your solider face to face
Sharing a romantic holiday with your soldier can be difficult, especially when they are miles away, possibly even in a different country. Sending care packages is a great way to share the love, but when you are romantically attached, it does not seem like enough when the one thing you really want to do is share a romantic evening with the one you love the most.
Sending letters during Valentine's Day with cute conversation hearts enclosed or even valentines from the children is something that is always appreciated. For many soldiers, once they deploy, it seems that they do not get to hear from their family nearly as often as they would like, even if they were not in a war zone. On the big love day, it can seem especially lonely.
For some, making a long distance phone call is enough or even sending an enticing letter that will make your nerves tingle. Sending photographs and postcards of the adventurous places you have been to and the things you have experienced is a romantic gesture that many really enjoy. For others, this is not enough for their soldier that they hardly get to see or hear from as it is.
Now, you can Skype with your loved one no matter where they are from your global position. Turn on your computer and "call" their computer and within seconds you can be sitting face to face from miles away. Once you have figured out how to Skype, you can share a meal with each other, talk about your day, share your "I love yous" and whatever else you feel comfortable doing.
For some, the biggest problem with using Skype can be privacy. In a dorm or shared room where a soldier may be staying, he might feel less than accepting of saying or doing things in front of his comrades than he would if he were at home. Children can present a problem for privacy, not to mention a time zone difference. Often times, soldiers are not in the country while they are deployed and their free time is often right in the middle of your night.
No matter what time of the day or night you get to talk to your special someone on Valentine's Day, remember that you can Skype with love no matter who is in the room, what you are doing or who might hear you. It is a great tool to help keep people together, without harsh long distance charges.
*My name is Allison and I am a fun-loving, adventurous being. When my job doesn’t have me traveling I normally guest blog, ride my horse, or hang out with friends. I normally write about natural health and healing, but ever since my boyfriend got word he would deploy I like to share ideas about how to still be you, manage life, and keep the love alive when he is not around. I’m starting a blog of my own, it is called - Musings of a Curious Mind

Remembering Memories
"We do not remember days, we remember memories." - Cesare Pavese (The Burning Brand)
Random memories ...
Some people say you can't remember things from before you were 4yrs old. Well I remember something from when I was 2yrs old. Growing up I would have these "flash backs" sometimes of me, as a little girl, hiding in the bathroom behind the door. I remember something "stinky" and remember feeling afraid and hearing my grandma call my name over and over... so, I asked my grandma about it one day. I told her about my "flash backs" and she started laughing. She told me that I was about 2yrs old that day. She remembered it well b/c she was watching me that day. Apparently, I was in the potty training stage and had my panties full of poop. I had taken it and smeared it on windows and doors. So that explains my feeling afraid and why I was hiding and why I remember something "stinky" LOL
I remember when I first started taking notice to differences in people of different races. My mother had a tubberware party and had her friends over. The tubberware lady was a black lady. I remember her being really nice and I felt comfortable with her. So, I innocently asked her why were her lips so much bigger than mine. I remember the look on my mothers face and you would think she wanted to die. She apologized to the woman for my question and the woman told her that it was fine. Then she looked at me and told me that her lips were bigger then mine for a few reasons. One being that she was older so everything on her was bigger. Two, that God, for some reason in all His wisdom, decided that folks of darker color should have bigger lips and that God made everyone special and perfect in his eyes. I had said I wished God gave me big lips because hers were pretty. She told me that God made me just as I am suppose to be and that I should love it no matter what. I remember that was my first "discussion" about God.
One memory that really sticks out from my teens has to do with my husband. We had known each other for about a month and had been "dating" for about 2 weeks. He would come over every day after football practice to visit with me. One day we were leaving my house, I think we were taking a walk or something, not sure, and he was in front of me. He was taller than me and he stopped on the step right below me on the porch. He turned around so that we were face to face, eye to eye. He looked at me with such sincerity and with so much certainty he said, "I'm gonna marry you." I told him, "You don't even know me." He said, "I know enough to know I love you and I'm gonna marry you."... and then he gave me a sweet, gentle kiss. ((And now look at us, 15yrs later with 3 kids lol))
What are some memories you have that brings a smile to your face?

Love Yourself!!
I started looking up self-esteem quotes and thought I'd share with everyone the ones I found and liked. We can all use reminders every once in a while! =)
I was once afraid of people saying, "Who does she think she is?" Now I have the courage to stand and say, "This is who I am."
~Oprah Winfrey
Seek respect mainly from thyself, for it comes first from within.
~Steven Coogler
When you recover or discover something that nourishes your soul and brings joy, care enough about yourself to make room for it in your life.
~Jean Shinoda Bolen
You are much deeper, much broader, much brighter than any idea you could have of yourself.
~Harry Palmer
Love yourself unconditionally, just as you love those closest to you despite their faults.
~Les Brown
We can never do the right thing as long as we are out to please someone else.
~Alice Miller
No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
~Eleanor Roosevelt
Yours is the energy that makes your world. There are no limitations to the self except those you believe in.
~Jane Roberts
To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself.
~Thich Nhat Hanh
Having a low opinion of yourself is not "modesty". It's self-destruction. Holding your uniqueness in high regard is not "egotism". It's a necessary precondition to happiness and success.
~Bobbe Sommer
People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within.

♥Friends♥
The more I think about what is important in this lifestyle...the army lifestyle... I think of my friends..Without them, I would go completely crazy!!
Yesterday I went to take Fran her "Penny the Pig" Scentsy Buddy and she wasn't home. So I texted her and found where she was and lovingly stalked her down at the PX lol... Fran is amazing.. I love that woman!! Fran will do anything she can for you and would give you her last dollar if you needed it. I actually came across Fran when I was hosting a jewelry party with my MIL and she wanted to order because she saw my event on facebook...I'm so glad she did b/c meeting her has brought joy to my life...
Today I spent some time with Staci... I went over around noon, thinking they would be up (they just came home from leave and were adjusting to the new time zone again and from driving hours and hours) but they weren't. I told Eddie I would come back but he said it was okay and to come in... Staci made coffee and it was so comforting to sit with my best buddy, drink coffee and fall back into our routine of when the guys were gone. They came over for dinner and we had some laughs and good food... I met Staci when our mutual friend Aimee asked me to help her when they first got to Stewart... I showed up on her doorstep the day the movers were there and she hasn't been able to get rid of me since! lol... a part of my heart will go with them to Carson when they leave in Sept... *wipes tear*
I also spent some time with Jennifer today!! Now that hookah is my homie!! LOL No, she really doesn't sell her ass, "Hookah" is just our pet name for each other lol... She came over tonight for dinner too, along with Staci, after she was done her meeting... she kinda had no choice to come over since I had her kids, bwahahaaa...lol.. She stayed for a bit and we laughed at the stupidest things.. Thank gosh she will still be here when Fran and Staci leave b/c I will need someone to let me cry on their shoulder... we will cry together...
I really don't know what my point is... I'm a bit tipsy, I can admit that.. I'm feeling kinda a lovey... I just know that without my friends my life would be very lonely!! Especially when Darrell is gone.. My friends complete me... and as Staci said earlier today, "they are friends I will have for life, no matter how far apart in distance we are, we will always be together"... So very true...
So, if you have friends who have made your army life a bit easier and who are now like family, let them know how much they mean to you.. tell them how special and blessed you feel to have had the chance to have them in your life... I will..

Worse than fighting...
What's worse than fighting? Silence...
When you fight, it's because you love and still have hope...
Hope that the fight in you will keep the love alive...
The heart wants what it wants...love...
but when the mind overcomes the heart, silence creeps in...
You may speak and be cold,
or keep it polite, but the fight? It's gone...
When you've lost hope and the fighting stops,
when the silence is there and your heart is numb,
it's time to realize hope is gone...
Silence is worse than fighting...
My voice is going dim...
When you fight, it's because you love and still have hope...
Hope that the fight in you will keep the love alive...
The heart wants what it wants...love...

Happy Anniversary to me ♥
I'm wondering if it is because of this lifestyle, or if it is just because I'm being a humbug, but my anniversary isn't a big deal to me these past few years... With the way the hubs works, sometimes he is here, sometimes he isn't... I've learned not to expect something grand on our day. I'm just glad we made it another year, lol.
Today we have been married for 9yrs and in October we will have been together for a total of 15yrs...that's just about our lives. I remember him in high school when he was the jock who would do things to get my attention and I would play games and be evasive...you know how teens are, lol. Sometimes I felt smothered... oh what I'd give to feel smothered again.
Our wedding was in my MIL's back yard on a newly built porch, decorated with light yellow and other pretty touches... My wedding song, "Ribbon in the Sky" played softly in the back ground on an old time record player. For some it may not seem like much, but we got married in a hurry and it was great for me. =)

"Ribbon In The Sky"
Oh so long for this night I prayed
That a star would guide you my way
To share with me this special day
Where a ribbon's in the sky for our love
If allowed may I touch your hand
And if pleased may I once again
So that you too will understand
There's a ribbon in the sky for our love
Do...Do...
Do Do Do Do Do...
HMM HMM...
This is not a coincidence
And far more than a lucky chance
But what is that was always meant
Is our ribbon in the sky for our love, love
We can't lose with God on our side
We'll find strength in each tear we cry
From now on it will be you and I
And our ribbon in the sky
Ribbon in the sky
A ribbon in the sky for our love
Do...Do...
Do Do Do Do Do...
HMM HMM...

Scentsy ♥ Supports Autism!
One out of every 110 children is diagnosed with autism – a staggering number. However, Scentsy has added its own numbers to the conversation:
*One Piece by Piece charitable cause warmer
*More than 100,000 independent consultants raising awareness
*100 percent of the profits benefitting Autism Speaks, an organization that has contributed more than $160 million to autism research and program development
“Scentsy is all about simplicity, authenticity and generosity. Our cause warmers, like the Piece by Piece warmer offered to support Autism Speaks, are great ways for us to make a difference in the communities we serve,” said Scentsy President Heidi Thompson.
Heidi and her husband, Orville, showed significant dedication to generosity when they founded the Scensty Family Foundation two years ago. Formed on three pillars of giving—direct giving, charitable cause warmers and scholarships for children of company consultants and employees—the Foundation has already made a considerable impact.
Its direct giving council considers each request for support on a case-by-case basis, be it as small as an individual sponsorship request for a race, as large as their recent $2.5 million Scentsy Buddy™ donation to the 2010 Today Show Toy Drive, or as complex as supporting major relief efforts for communities damaged by natural disasters.
In addition, twice a year the Foundation selects a charitable cause to support through the creation of a unique warmer, the profits of which are donated to that cause. The Foundation has previously supported such philanthropic efforts as Sunshine Kids, contributing $176,000 to their work with children battling cancer; and the National Breast Cancer Foundation in the United States and Rethink Breast Cancer in Canada with their “Love, Life, Hope” Warmer, raising a total of more than $600,000 for both organizations.
This spring’s charitable cause warmer brings attention to a significant disability affecting increasingly large numbers of children every year. “So many people have been touched by autism” reflects Orville, CEO of the company. “Our 100,000 independent consultants have a great desire to support important causes. Autism is a puzzle they want to help solve, and Autism Speaks is a charity they are very excited to support.”
Designed with colorful puzzle pieces, the release and sale of the Piece by Piece warmer not only honors the mission of Autism Speaks—“Solving the puzzle, piece by piece”—but also honors Autism Awareness month (April), further publicizing the growing impact autism has on families across the country.
“We are pleased to establish a partnership with Scentsy and are grateful for the unique warmer design to raise funds and autism awareness,” said Mark Roithmayr, President of Autism Speaks.
Piece by piece, warmer by warmer, Scentsy is making a difference in its community – and for autism, too.
DSA is proud of its members’ charitable giving efforts.

Signs of Suicidal Behavior - do you know them?
I decided to write about this because of recent events around here. We have had several soldiers commit suicide and I keep wondering to myself, "did anyone see this coming?" Now I know that if someone really wants to do it they will, but what if others had noticed the signs and intervened? We may still have some people with us. Most of the time there are signs that lead up to someone committing suicide. Some of these signs are:
Depression: they will start experiencing many different emotions including sadness, anxiety and hopelessness...they may lose interest in things they once enjoyed or don't seem to care about what is going on around them. People with depression can be helped, even major depression can be helped when caught in time.
Talking about dying: they may become kind of obsessive about death. Maybe talking about how they want to die or how others have died. Thinking and talking about death all the time and more specifically including themselves.
Sleep patterns: Someone who's depressed and considering suicide may change their sleeping habits. This can range from them sleeping too much to not sleeping at all and being restless all of the time. Often times, they'll move from a regular schedule to being hyperactive. They then move into periods of sleeping for long periods of time.
Other things:
*loss of appetite w/ sudden loss of weight
*loss of concentration
*feeling worthless
*hating themselves
*hating everything
*loss of goals or interest in the future
*making plans for others to care for their pets
*giving away personal things or money
*getting their WILL in order
*loss of control
One important thing to look at is their past!! Do they have a past history of suicide attempts or depression?

On this Mother's Day....
It's been three years now since my mother passed away from cancer... I miss her so much and I can't believe it's been that long already.
Now I'm a mother myself and I wonder sometimes if I'm doing a good job... I know I am, but still, you have those moments where your kids do certain things and you are just dumbfounded! Have I raised you to act like that?! LOL I think all of us mothers have those moments...
While I miss my mother and I'm grateful for my kids, something else really stands out for me on Mother's Day.... it's kinda funny too...not in the "haha" way, but in a weird way... I find myself thinking about the Twins more on Mother's Day than any other day, not even their birthday... Not thinking of them like I regret our decision... thinking of them and their parents... knowing that when Mother's Day rolls around each year, there is a woman out there, who had no chance at experiencing the joys of motherhood, until I found her.... knowing that the Twins have a mother they can show appreciation to who truly is giving them everything they need, in every aspect of their lives.... something I could not have provided....
I won't turn this into some sappy thing... just wanted to put my thoughts down =)

Love never Fails
True or False? I think it's true and false...
The love you have for yourself is the only one I think never fails. If you love yourself and have the confidence and drive, you can accomplish just about anything you put your mind to.
If your love is grounded in God, I believe that love will never fail you.
The love that does fail you is the love you give to those who don't love you. Which is why I believe that love is never enough when it comes to relationships...this goes for romantic and friends... sometimes, love just doesn't cut it.
My thoughts at the moment.
/thinking LOL

The heart will go on and on....
Celion Dion's song "My Heart Will Go On" always makes me cry. I'm a sap, I know... if you want to cry just list to it... My Heart Will Go On by: Celion Dion
I'm sitting here watching Titanic... my Friday night is a sap night... you know those nights where you just want to "boo hoo" it out all over the place, but privately...When you need a good cry and you pop in the movie you know will do it for ya.... that movie for me is Titanic....
I think most women who have ever been in love can relate to this story... young Rose who is confused and pressured finds love in a very unexpected place... in a forbidden place... in a "street rat"... I know I can relate to that, to that feeling of the forbidden... my grandfather was as racist as they come and my falling in love and having a baby with a black man crossed the line. He had his moment and said some words, but after a stern talking to by my aunt (RIP Aunt Robbie), he came around... thank goodness he didn't try to shoot any body like Cal on Titanic...we would have had some problems...LOL
And oh the love between Rose and Jack that flourished so quickly... and deeply... "you jump, I jump"... Have you ever felt that? I have... I can relate there too... loving someone so much that you go with them wherever, whenever.... that love that brings you physical pain when you think of something happening to your beloved... or something happening to your relationship with your beloved... The euphoric highs that come with that love....indescribable... and the lows that come in bad times, gut wrenching...
In the end, with Jack's death, Rose actually begins to live... you see she was dead inside before Jack, he brought her to life.... he saved her... I can relate there too... the part of saving me, not the death part LOL.... when I met my husband I was so down and in such a bad place within myself... he brought me back to life...he helped me heal the wounds that had been holding back... and if he were to die, I don't know that my heart could on... could I do like Rose did? and go on, living her life not only for herself, but for Jack? Could I go on living for me? For him? I just don't know if I'm that strong....

Encouraging eachother -
A lot of posts lately from the inbox on AWDIWH have been about men cheating on their wives, or the wives are suspicious of them cheating, or of men lying about small things or even big things such as texting other women even when there is proof to blow them right out of the water.
These kind of things in relationships almost always cause insecurities in women. There are other things that will cause insecurities too. Maybe when you were growing up someone made of you and said your nose was pointy (like me), or that your boobs were too big (like my friend), or maybe your hair wasn't the cutest color and someone made sure they let you know they thought that. Maybe your teacher said in subtle ways that you weren't the brightest in the class. The list goes on...
I completely believe insecurities are LEARNED, but I also believe that they can be UNLEARNED. Do you love yourself? I mean truly, unconditionally love yourself? If you don't, you need to.
When you wake up every day, look in the mirror and say, "hey gorgeous! you're gonna have a great day!". If your husband happens to be there and asks who you're speaking to just tell him, "the most important person in my life". Ultimately, you should be the most important person in your life. If you don't put yourself first and take care of you, you won't be able to properly take care of others.
If you don't like your hair, take control and go get it done! Do something different with it. A new cut or color. A small change can make a difference. If you are unhappy with your weight, get out there and exercise! Even if you just start out walking, it's better than nothing. If you feel you aren't smart enough, take a class and learn a new language or hobby.
Let's encourage other women to feel great about themselves! Tell your friends what you like about them. Send them an encouraging quote or an inspirational picture. Mail out a "just because" card and let a wonderful woman in your life know you are thinking of them and they are fabulous!! When we uplift others, we will also uplift ourselves...
Everyone has inside them a piece of good news. The good news is you don't know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is!

Raise your Self-Esteem
12 Steps to help you raise your self-esteem
1. Stop comparing yourself with other people. There will always be some people who have more than you and some who have less. If you play the comparison game, you'll run into too many "opponents" you can't defeat.
2. Stop putting yourself down. You can't develop high self-esteem if you repeat negative phrases about yourself and your abilities. Whether speaking about your appearances, your career, your relationships, your financial situation, or any other aspects of your life, avoid self-depreciating comments.
3. Accept all compliments with "thank you." Ever received a compliment and replied," Oh, it was nothing." When you reject a compliment, the message you give yourself is that you are not worthy of praise. Respond to all compliments with a simple Thank You."
4. Use affirmations to enhance your self-esteem. On the back of a business card or small index card, write out a statement such as "I like and accept my self." or "I am valuable, lovable person and deserve the best in life." Carry the card with you. Repeat the statement several times during the day, especially at night before going to bed and after getting up in the morning. Whenever you say the affirmation, allow yourself to experience positive feelings about your statement.
5. Take advantage of workshops, books and cassette tape programs on self-esteem. Whatever material you allow to dominate mind will eventually take root and affect your behavior. If you watch negative television programs or read newspaper reports of murders and business rip off; you will grow cynical and pessimistic. Similarly, if you read books or listen to programs, that are positive in nature, you will take on these characteristics.
6. Associate with positive, supportive people. When you are surrounded by negative people who constantly put you and your ideas down, your self-esteem is lowered. On the other hand, when you are accepted and encouraged, you feel better about yourself in the best possible environment to raise your self-esteem.
7. Make a list of your past successes. This doesn't necessarily have to consist of monumental accomplishments. It can include your "minor victories," like learning to skate, graduating from high school, receiving an award or promotion, reaching a business goal, etc. Read this list often. While reviewing it, close your eyes and recreate the feelings of satisfaction and joy you experienced when you first attained each success.
8. Make a list of your positive qualities. Are you honest? Unselfish? Helpful? Creative? Be generous with yourself and write down at least 20 positive qualities. Again, it's important to review this list often. Most people dwell on their inadequacies and then wonder why their life isn't working out. Start focusing on your positive traits and you'll stand a much better chance of achieving what you wish to achieve.
9. Start giving more. I'm not talking about money. Rather, I mean that you must begin to give more of yourself to those around your. When you do things for others, you are making a positive contribution and you begin to feel more valuable, which, in turn, lifts your spirits and raises your own self-esteem.
10. Get involved in work and activities you love. It's hard to feel good about yourself if your days are spent in work you despise. Self-esteem flourishes when you are engaged in work and activities that you enjoy and make you feel valuable. Even if you can't explore alternative career options at the present time, you can still devote leisure time to hobbies and activities, which you find stimulating and enjoyable.
11. Be true to yourself. Live your own life - not the life others have decided is best for you. You'll never gain your own respect and feel good about yourself if you aren't leading the life you want to lead. If you're making decisions based on getting approval from friends and relatives, you aren't being true to yourself and your self-esteem is lowered.
12. Take action! You won't develop high self-esteem if you sit on the sidelines and back away from challenges. When you take action - regardless of the ensuing result - you feel better about yourself. When you fail to move forward because of fear and anxiety, you'll be frustrated and unhappy - and you will undoubtedly deal a damaging blow to your self-esteem.

Military Marriage ~ keeping it strong
We all know deployments are stressful and sometimes they can make or break a marriage.
I've been reading about tips from books and online about ways to help keep the military marriage strong through deployments, separations, and relocations.
The first thing I want to stress is that if you are having problems with coping during deployment don't be afraid to seek help from the many services available to you. If you aren't coping well while your spouse is deployed, they will know and it can effect your marriage. You can easily find out what services are available where you are by contacting your ACS office, the post chaplin, or even your FRG may be able to point you in the right direction. Military OneSource is a great place to get information too!
One thing I have noticed from experience and reading is that as army wives, we need to have our own identity. Separate from our spouse. This goes with any marriage really, but I think it is even more important in the military. I have seen wives completely fall apart when their spouse deploys because they focus everything around him. We need to have our own hobbies and friends. Our lives can not revolve around our spouse.
We need to be independent. That independence will get us through everything! Your spouse needs to know you can handle things on your own because when they leave, you will be doing it on your own. We take care of the bills, the house, the kids, go to school, work...etc. The list goes on. Basically, when your spouse deploys or goes on an unaccompanied tour, or off for training, you are on your own.
Communication is extremely important!! When your spouse is gone you may not get to talk to them on the phone much, but you can still send letters or emails. Even cute cards count. Now-a-days, many couples use yahoo, skype, msn or another instant messaging service. You've got to stay connected. Send care packages and pictures of yourself and the kids (if you have kids). Send a small teddy bear or a shirt in a zip-lock bag with your perfume on it. Little reminders of home help alot. If you are comfortable with it, you can also send "naughty" pictures as a pleasant surprise for your spouse. We must keep in mind that lack of communication does not mean there is a lack of love. Sometimes our spouses can't call us or get on IM. There could be many reasons why, but keep it coming from your end!
As with all marriages, there must be compromise and trust. I think that is pretty self-explanitory.
Faithfulness should be mentioned too. I'm not just talking about cheating physically. From what I have been reading lately, it seems that emotional affairs can be just as bad or even worse than physical cheating. Be careful of your friends of the opposite sex who are "just friends". It is easy to get caught up emotionally on both sides when you're separated from your spouse for long periods of time. An emotional affair is when you depend on someone else more than your partner. Here's some info on emotional affairs : Emotional Affairs 101.
There is more but I've run out of time for now. =)
