Questions for Me From some *AWDIWH* fans!

The other day I asked the fans on my page if there was anything they wanted to know from me personally... so here we go!

Melanie Greeke - "Can you talk about the phrase "sanctity of marriage" and how it has absolutely no meaning?? I'm tired of hearing it."

Let's dig a little here... "Sanctity of Marriage" or "Holy Matrimony" to me is more for those who are "religious". This is the idea of sacredness in marriage. "Sanctity" has the meaning of "holiness"..for those who do not believe in God, "sanctity in marriage" most likely doesn't exist.

However, this doesn't mean that they don't take their vows seriously or respect their marriage.

Now, even though I do believe in God, I'm not a fan of "sanctity of marriage". There are several reasons why... one, the divorce rate in America is ridiculous and clearly shows that "sanctity of marriage" isn't what it use to be. Those who claim they believe in the "sanctity of marriage" don't respect it. They disrespect themselves and their spouse which throws the "sanctity" right out the window.

Two, I have seen many "christians" who believe in the "sanctity of marriage" yet they don't follow Christ. If you followed Christ and believed in the "sanctity of marriage" your life would show it. If that light doesn't shine through you, don't preach it to others.

Three, I've been cheated on. Sanctity for me no longer exists. It will never come back.

So basically, I think "sanctity of marriage" really doesn't matter. What matters is that when you make your vows, you take them seriously. You respect the boundaries of your marriage, you respect your spouse. You don't give up at the first sign of trouble. Unless you are being physically, mentally & emotionally abused, you do everything in your power to make it work. Too many people treat a marriage like it's a game.

If you believe in the "sanctity of marriage" and it works for you, good, I'm truly happy for you. If you don't believe in it, that's alright with me too!! But no one should be judging the other on what works for them.

Ellen Hunt-Crane - "So... Here I was, just drinking my morning coffee. My cat sits by me.. normal thing right? Nope. Not this time. The bastard farted."

LOL I had to comment on this...there was a bit of a "discussion" going on in the thread about the "sanctity of marriage" and Ellen posted this as a distraction I'm assuming. It made me chuckle...and I'd like to add that I hated it when my dog would fart... man it was the nastiest thing EVER!! lol

Kara Cunningham - "What was the motivation behind creating this page, and what were your expectations at first?"

I guess my motivation behind this page was a group on MySpace. I joined a group of hilarious wives on MySpace during one of my husbands deployments.. they helped me in more ways then they could ever know. I still talk to alot of them and one of them is actually my co-admin on the page. MySpace died and we migrated to Facebook. We had no group on Facebook so I made the page.

I had tried doing other "support" pages first though..but I couldn't stand all the hearts and lovey dovey crap...if you said what you felt, instead of what they wanted to hear, you were mean, negative and dramatic.. So, I wanted a spot where I could use my experience and knowledge to help others w/o having to sugar coat things.

I wanted a place where myself and others could seek advice, vent, discuss/debate, bitch and whatever else w/o feeling that we had to tip-toe around sensitive women who only want to hear "everything will be alright sweetie " instead of the truth.

I'm not sure what my expectations were when I made the page. I wanted to help others and keep myself occupied lol...it has certainly become more than I ever thought it would. While I have my days where I would love it if I could smack someone through my laptop screen, I keep going on because of the impact I know I have made on others.

Christine Nola Gibson - "Do you think that there is one incident, event, experience that defines you moreso than other one in your life? Why? Which one?"

I don't think there is one specific incident, event, or experience that defines me more than another. I have had so many that I have been through and done that I take something from them all. I do think that there are specific experiences that have given me more strength than other ones... ones that have given me more hope... more faith... more courage... more determination... more open-mindedness... everything together defines me.

Ellen Hunt-Crane - "Was there a time in your marriage that you felt it wasn't going to make it? I ask because it seems like a lot of people, including myself, have felt that at one time or another."

In all honesty, there have been more a few times where I felt it wasn't going to make it. I'm struggling with that right now. I don't think that is important though.

What I think is important is how you handle those feelings. Are you going to let them get the best of you? Just give up? Or are you going to fight and give it all you got until you have no more to give? Are you going to keep doing the same old thing, or are you going to take the time to figure what is wrong, why you feel it might not make it, and then do something to fix it? I choose to give it my all until I have nothing left to give.

Angie Phillips - "What is your deployment guilty pleasures, and routine?"

Each deployment I had different guilty pleasures & routines.

During his first one, I was really big in going to church. My routine stemmed from my church family and the "sisters" I gained through them. I had started going to church on Tuesday night for Bible Study, on Wednesday morning for Ladies Bible Study..Thursday night for service... On Saturdays we went "soul winning", where we invited people out to church & then service on Saturday night... On Sunday mornings I went to service & ended up teaching Sunday school & went to service Sunday night. It seems like a lot, but really I felt it wasn't enough at the time. I loved the people there, the energy, the togetherness we shared. My guilty pleasures during this deployment was reading lol... I know it doesn't sound exciting, but I use to read all the time until I had kids. Two toddlers took up a lot of time. So I had made the time again to read. Reading relaxed me and helped me keep my mind off the deployment.

During his second deployment, we were already living somewhere else. I didn't have my same church family but I went to the church we had in that area. I met some great ladies there too but my time at church wasn't as much as it was before. By then we had the boys and Alexis. My daily routine was taking the boys to school, coming home and taking care of the house and playing with Alexis. The boys would come home and we would do extra learning activities along with their homework. I didn't really have any guilty pleasures that time...I just busied myself with the kids.

During his third deployment, we were living somewhere else, again! I didn't go to church at all there. I did make a few amazing friends... if it weren't for Heather L. and Amber V. I would have fallen apart. I had so many trials during that time. I spent my days with Heather drinking coffee and talking..shopping and storm chasing a time or two... One of my guilty pleasures was taking the back road to the Walmart from West Fort Hood... I loved to sit in the middle of the road while the cows crossed and just watch them.. it reminded me of back home in Jersey... Another guilty pleasure was my and Amber's "Dexter nights"! We would run up to the little spot at the shoppette and grab lots of Spam-musabi's and stuff our faces while lounging on the couch watching Dexter. It was heaven...lol

During his fourth deployment, we were yet again, somewhere else. My routine here was a bit different. Most of his deployment, my routine consisted of school work and gym time and doctors appointments. I was losing weight so my guilty pleasure was new clothes and I rewarded myself each week with my fave drink from Starbucks.

Tabitha-James Sutton - "How does your hubby feel about the page?"

Darrell "rags" on me sometimes about it, but I think he really likes it. Well, not so much likes the page itself, but likes that I like it b/c I get to help others. I think he is proud, but doesn't like to admit it. A few times when I have met some new soldiers, my husband will bring up the page, "You know, if your wife needs help or anything, she should check out my wife's page..." One thing he doesn't like is me getting too personal when it involves him. He is a private person. There are times when he helps me with advice and times when he laughs at some of the stuff. No, he doesn't post on there and no he isn't even a fan lol

Ben Bierman - "How do u inbox ? Like u know so its posted as a ? On here ? How many people run this page ? Just one ?"

There is a contact tab and my email is in the info/about section. I am the only one who posts the inboxes, so only I see them. But I do have another admin who posts occasionally and helps me keep an eye on the page when I go out of town and stuff. I am the main one who posts though. When my other admin, Rissa, posts she signs her name. I never sign my name.

Christine Nola Gibson - "How do you feel about the use of the term Military "brats"? Do you think it puts a bad spin on children who were raised in the military?"

I really didn't have a problem with that term before, but now I don't care for it much. Here's why... I had to file a complaint with housing against someone whose children were just out of control. As it turns out, I was not the first to do so. I don't know if the lady was suppose to or not, but she actually showed me one of the complaints b/c of something we were specifically talking about. In this report, the woman I was filing a complaint against had told them "they're military brats, that's what they do", referring to her kids. UH NO. My kids have been "military brats" for 10yrs. My boys are 12 & 11 and my daughter is 6. My kids are NOTHING like hers. My kids are not disrespectful to adults...my kids don't run around with knives threatening other kids...my kids don't destroy property.. my kids don't go around calling people "faggots" or telling black girls "take your black ass back to the ghetto"... So, no, I do not like the term "military brats" now lol... I refuse to have my kids lumped into what she thinks is acceptable for kids who she says are "military brats".

If there are other things you want to ask, post a comment here on my blog post and I'll do another post like this =) Thanks for reading!

Breast Reduction - Part 3

Yesterday I had my "pre-op" appointment. When I went in the nurse showed me to the area where I will be getting prepped for my surgery. We talked about the procedure and went over my packet of instructions. I was showed where I would recover too. The doctor came in and we finalized my size I'm going to and he talked to me about my medications. The surgery will only take about 2hrs and I won't have any drains in. I will get one surgical bra and can buy more if I like. The bras are only $18.70!! Much cheaper than the boulder holders I have to buy now! LOL

Here is a list of my medications:

Valium (Diazepam) - used to relieve anxiety, muscle spasms, and seizures (I take this the night before my surgery when I go to bed to help with anxiety/nervousness)

Zofran (Ondansetron) - used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. Ondansetron is in a class of medications called 5-HT3 receptor antagonists. It works by blocking the action of serotonin, a natural substance that may cause nausea and vomiting. (I will one of these the night before my surgery and the morning of my surgery to help with nausea)

Dilaudid (Hydromorphone) - used to relieve moderate to severe pain. It also may be used to decrease coughing. (For severe pain after my surgery as needed)

Lorcet - narcotic pain reliever used in patients who experience moderate to moderately severe pain. (For after my surgery)

Zantac (Ranitidine) - used to prevent and treat symptoms of heartburn associated with acid indigestion and sour stomach. (For after surgery)

Robaxin (Methocarbamol) - used with rest, physical therapy, and other measures to relax muscles and relieve pain and discomfort caused by strains, sprains, and other muscle injuries. Methocarbamol is in a class of medications called muscle relaxants. It works by slowing activity in the nervous system to allow the body to relax (For after surgery)

Phenergan (Promethazine) - used to prevent and control nausea and vomiting that may occur after surgery, and with other medications to help relieve pain after surgery. (For after surgery)

Man! That's a lot! I'm kind of relieved that my pain will be controlled though lol! I now have one week until my surgery and I'm getting more nervous. Not nervous about the results or having doubts, just nervous about the whole procedure itself, but the nurse tells me it's normal =)

Here is me signing away my "ta-ta's":

Here was my list of prescriptions when I was at the pharmacy getting it filled: (btw, I hate the pharmacy and their slow asses)

Breast Reduction - Part 2

The call I've been waiting for came this morning... Tricare approved my surgery! So many emotions are coming and going right now about this. At first I felt sick from the nervousness and realization that I'm actually on my way to doing this. Don't get me wrong, I'm still absolutely sure I want to do this, it's just a big decision.

I know my breasts don't define me but they are a part of me and it makes me a little nervous on how I feel about my body afterwards. I think being a little nervous is normal, at least I hope it is. However, I'm so looking forward to no more back pain, shoulder pain, migraines, indents from my bra straps... (I am fully aware that not all my "symptoms" will just go away completely, but it will be so much better!)

I'm excited to get this done, heal and get back to the gym. My chest was a major factor into why I stopped going. It was painful on the treadmill working with "the girls"... I never seemed to have enough support and I hated when I would get rashes. I also wouldn't want to do anything else after the gym because my back would be killing me. Pain is not fun.

So, my pre-op appointment will be at the end of this month. At this appointment I'll be given the prescription for my medications, guidelines on the days leading up to my surgery and the guidelines for the day of my surgery. I'm sure they'll give me directions on post-op care too.

My actual surgery is set for the very beginning of September. I'm extremely glad to be getting it done for 2 reasons. One, I just want to do it and get it over with lol. Two, my husband will be here. You know in the Army they are always gone for training and schooling and such, so September is the perfect time because he will be gone for a bit in October.

More to come =)

WildWood, NJ - fun times...

When I was a little girl the highlight of my summer was always going to WildWood, NJ. We would get wrist bands and ride the rides and do the water park until our legs felt like they were gonna fall off! When you go to WildWood, there are some things you just HAVE to do:

1. The Ferris Wheel - it's huge!! At the top of it when you're sitting there just swaying in the breeze (and you will sway lol) you can see far out over the Atlantic Ocean and everyone looks like ants on the ground. It is so peaceful and beautiful..

2. Walk the Boardwalk - if your legs don't feel like they're gonna fall off from going from pier to pier for the rides, they will after you walk the boardwalk! There are so many shops to shop in, tattoo/piercing shops, old time photo shops, games and food that you won't even realize how far you have walked...

3. The Tram Car - for those who fall out from walking, they have the Tram Car...for $2.50 you can ride it from one end of the boardwalk to the other. Those who are walking will constantly hear "watch the tram car please" - in the same electronic recorded voice they have used since I was 2ft tall...lol

4. Curly Fries - the boardwalk has the BEST curly fries ever!! If you've had them, you know I speak the truth...if not, you are missing out!

5. Salt Water Taffy - this chewy, sweet goodness was a favorite of mine as a child and many others... nothing like it in the world ...nom nom nom

Picture time!!

For those who have been to WildWood, they know that once you hit a certain area, there is this smell from the water that hits you like "omg I'm gonna puke" LOL...here is the spot & Darrell's face when we hit the spot hahaaa -

One of our fave rides is the TeaCups - I had our cup spinning so fast that Alexis's eyes were rolling in her head LOL -

The Boardwalk, games and Tram Car -

A classic, the Carousel -

Seaguls are everywhere -

Some rides on one of the piers at night & most importantly, the Ferris Wheel-

So, if you ever get to go to South Jersey, go to WildWood!! There are tons of Hotels on the strip and you will have a blast!!! The beach and ocean are right there, rides, food, entertainment and most importantly - fun times to be had by all =)

It's "Jersey" - not "Joisey"

Some people liked to tease me about New Jersey b/c I absolutely loathe that stupid show "Jersey Shore" - if you like it, more power to ya lol... I just can't stomach it. My friend Amanda likes to "it's ttttttttt-shiiiiiiirt time" me (yes I know you do it in fun Amanda and no I'm not mad LOL, I'm just giving an example).

Now, before that show came out and we lived in TX, my neighbor said "Oh, you're from Joisey"... I politely said, "No, I'm from New Jersey, I pronounce my R's." (No offense to any hard core New Yorkers lol)

You see when I say I'm from New Jersey, people automatically think the northern part near New York, or they think all of New Jersey is like that. It's simply not the case. Not everyone from New Jersey looks like an over-tanned oompa loompa like the "characters" on Jersey Shore. As a matter of fact, I NEVER met anyone like that in the 20 something years I lived in Jersey.

The Jersey I know was "country"... farm land and cows...pastures with horses and geese running around...fields of corn behind old barns with the rope swing at the door where the loft is.

When we got to Jersey the other night my son looked at me like I was crazy because I said "OMG look at the cows!!! I have never been so happy to see cows!" haahaaaa... I was having a moment, yes, I love the cows... even though one day when I was younger they chased me and my friend down the road. They were behind their fence but they chased us anyway and we ran our asses off... maybe that is where my ass went, I'd like it back please...lol

So,anywho... today when I was driving I took 2 pics of the "scenery". Yes, I know, bad Jamie!! Taking pics while driving... sue me lol - but I just had to share the beautiful green grass (that I rarely see in GA and certainly not in my back yard) and I tried to get one of a barn =)

Jersey to me is crabs in the summer, the shore (like WildWood), warm summer days and cool breezy evenings (not the suffocating heat in GA all summer long with no cool break in sight), fruit and veggie stands everywhere on the side of the road that have the juiciest watermelons and peaches (yes, better than GA peaches) that you've ever had, beautiful old farm houses with gazebos in the front yard near small ponds that have ducks and geese, yards littered with sheep and goats.... that is the Jersey I know and love =)

30 Days of me - Days 28, 29 & 30

I started this in Feb 2011 and it has taken me forever to finish! LOL... Here we are, finally the last 3 days!

Day 28- A picture of you last year and now, how have you changed since then?

Last year-

Now-(recent)

Hmmm... how have I changed since then?... I would say that I have changed in the sense that I'm now concentrating on me... back then, it was all about others. Now, I'm still concerned about others but I have come to see that I need to take my own advice and put me first! Everything else will fall into place.

Day 29- In this past month, what have you learned?

I've learned that love, no matter how deep and true, is not enough to keep some people together... even those who seem to have the best chance of making it.

Day 30- Your favorite song.

Right now, my fave song is:

Here are my previous "30 Days of Me"
30 Days of me - Day 1
30 Days of me - Day 2
30 Days of me - Day 3
30 Days of me - Day 4
30 Days of me - Day 5
30 Days of me - Day 6
30 Days of me - Day 7
30 Days of me - Day 8
30 Days of me - Day 9
30 Days of me - Day 10
30 Days of me - Day 11
30 Days of me - Day 12
30 Days of me - Day 13
30 Days of me - Day 14, Day 15, Day 16
30 Days of me - Day 17, Day 18, Day 19

Worse than fighting...

What's worse than fighting? Silence...
When you fight, it's because you love and still have hope...
Hope that the fight in you will keep the love alive...
The heart wants what it wants...love...
but when the mind overcomes the heart, silence creeps in...
You may speak and be cold,
or keep it polite, but the fight? It's gone...
When you've lost hope and the fighting stops,
when the silence is there and your heart is numb,
it's time to realize hope is gone...
Silence is worse than fighting...
My voice is going dim...

Happy Anniversary to me ♥

I'm wondering if it is because of this lifestyle, or if it is just because I'm being a humbug, but my anniversary isn't a big deal to me these past few years... With the way the hubs works, sometimes he is here, sometimes he isn't... I've learned not to expect something grand on our day. I'm just glad we made it another year, lol.

Today we have been married for 9yrs and in October we will have been together for a total of 15yrs...that's just about our lives. I remember him in high school when he was the jock who would do things to get my attention and I would play games and be evasive...you know how teens are, lol. Sometimes I felt smothered... oh what I'd give to feel smothered again.

Our wedding was in my MIL's back yard on a newly built porch, decorated with light yellow and other pretty touches... My wedding song, "Ribbon in the Sky" played softly in the back ground on an old time record player. For some it may not seem like much, but we got married in a hurry and it was great for me. =)

"Ribbon In The Sky"

Oh so long for this night I prayed
That a star would guide you my way
To share with me this special day
Where a ribbon's in the sky for our love

If allowed may I touch your hand
And if pleased may I once again
So that you too will understand
There's a ribbon in the sky for our love

Do...Do...
Do Do Do Do Do...
HMM HMM...

This is not a coincidence
And far more than a lucky chance
But what is that was always meant
Is our ribbon in the sky for our love, love

We can't lose with God on our side
We'll find strength in each tear we cry
From now on it will be you and I
And our ribbon in the sky
Ribbon in the sky
A ribbon in the sky for our love

Do...Do...
Do Do Do Do Do...
HMM HMM...

There's a ribbon in the sky for our love

*Army Wives Do It With Hooah*

I told the gals/guys on my page *AWDIWH* that I would write a little intro about myself ...so here is it =)

I grew up in a little town in Southern New Jersey and moved from there to another town where I met my husband in the 10th grade. We dated on and off for about 6 yrs, mainly "on" lol, and they we got married in June 2002. This year will be our 9yr wedding anniversary.

During our dating/marriage we have been through a lot as a couple... we had 2 boys before we got married and a daughter after my husbands 1st deployment...she was a deployment baby =)

My husband joined the army in 2002 and he is planning on retiring out. I'm pretty easy going so I don't mind as long as we're all together and the family is taken care of.

A bit about me personally:

Purple is my favorite color, I love reading books.... mostly horror and self-help, but I also love books that teach me things! I am a loyal friend and always help my girls when they need me, they know who they can count on!!

We've lived at Fort Riley, Fort Carson, Fort Hood and now Fort Stewart. My husband has been deployed 4 times and I have stood by and supported him 100%.

I have hypothyroidism and it can be a very serious problem if not taken care of. It almost killed me and I had no idea how bad it was until I did some research ---> Hypothyroidism

I recently started selling Scentsy and I love it!!!

Here I'll share some pics of me and my family =)

Day 22- What makes you different from everyone else.

I'm really not so different from everyone else, but there are some things about me that I don't find often in others... one, I'm extremely patient and forgiving... two, my eyes change color.

30 Days of me - Day 17, Day 18, & Day 19

Day 17- Someone you would want to switch lives with for one day and why.

There isn't anyone I would switch lives with, not even for one day. I'm good with who I am and what I got.

Day 18- Plans/dreams/goals you have.

The most important thing for me to accomplish right now is that I raise kids who are well-rounded, respectful, smart, loving and who will be productive members of society. Can't have no bums running around....LOL

Day 19- Nicknames you have; why do you have them.

Heckler Queen - a guy from High School gave me this name b/c he said I heckle him all the time...which I do... lol

Chief Woodpecker of the Spring Dawn - Kevin S. gave me this nickname on myspace... don't know why really, but I like it =)

BabyDoll - this is what my husband calls me, well, use to call me. He still does every once in awhile. That was just his pet name for me in High School.

Bitch/cunt/twat - that's what my haters call me =)

Moments~

Someone said something to me that really hit home.

"It's these moments that let you know you have the strength to break from the mold of what was & prepare to go in another direction."

Do you ever do something (or not do something) because you are scared of moving forward? Have you been faced with a problem or situation where you keep going in the same direction because you know it is the safe the direction, being afraid of what may come if you choose the unknown? This seems to my life lately.

Afraid of change... afraid of making certain moves because I'm not sure that I'm strong enough to move forward into the unknown. Settling has gotten me no where. I have to break out of this funk I'm in and get in gear.

What moments have you let pass by and later wish you had embraced? Those days are done for me now. I'm going to grab these moments by the horns and ride them out through the uncertainty and fear and embrace the unknown and the excitement that is sure to come with it... I lost my groove years ago and it's time to get it back.

30 Days of me - Day 13

Day 13- A letter to someone who has hurt you recently.

JT,

I love you so much! I have wanted so much more for you than what you are doing now. I understand your childhood was not the greatest with everything that went on... and I can't imagine how it felt to live with mommy and watch her slowly die. I know you're hurting and I know you want help... you just have to drop your stupid pride and do what you know you need to do. It really hurts me that you have not trusted in me and in yourself enough to take me and Darrell up on our offer to help you. I know you had a shitty childhood and I can't even imagine what it must have been like to watch mommy die and I feel guilty for not being there when you needed me the most. I have always been the one constant you could count on and I let you down... it hurts me that you don't do better for yourself...that you don't love yourself enough to do better. It's not too late to change the direction of your life. You can still do it... make me proud, make mommy proud from heaven, most importantly, make yourself proud!! Show your father you are more than what he is and has been... don't let him hold you down... I think it hurts me so much because I look at you as more than a brother to me.. I have a motherly instinct that kicks in when it comes to you, I'm assuming because of how much I took care of you when you were younger up until I left New Jersey... You and Jackie are all I have left of our "family"... mommy is gone... Grandma and Aunt Sharon are here too but they aren't my siblings... I want so much more for you... Jackie is in a good place and getting the love and care she needs and deserves so I'm not worried about her, but you... you are screwing up so bad and it's killing me... I will always be here to help... I love you...

Love,
Sissy

30 Days of me - Day 12

Day 12- How you found out about Blogger and why you made one.

I started writing a blog on wordpress when I began my weight loss but I didn't really like wordpress. So I googled "blogs" and found blogger...

I decided that I needed a place to keep the info I find for army spouses and just stuff to share in general. So, I use my blog for my personal experiences and as a place to keep informative things for the ladies I like to help =)
